If you are open to change...
It's nice to know that legends don't have to be stuck into one box. I like smart risk takers! This is a great listen. If you are expecting the same stuff you traditionally hear, especially from Robert Plant, then you may be disappointed. But, if you are like me, and enjoy different styles of music, then sit back, get mellow, and enjoy the ride. These are two exceptional artists in their well-known genres coming together to make different, exceptional music.
Raising Plant
Who would have thought that the voice of the "Golden God" of British Invasion rock and roll would blend so seemlessly with that of Bluegrass Queen Alison Krauss? Together they-- along with visionary producer T-Bone Burnett-- have crafted a wonderful melange of country, rock, and gospel, topped by a heartbreaking traditional ballad. Plant's soaring tenor is more than a match for Krauss's ethereal soprano. Full of tighty-twined harmonies, these tracks will compell you to sing along-- whether you can or not. Does it really matter? Music is made for enjoyment-- and for love. All praise for two icons of seemingly divergent genres who came together to give us a real gift!
Excellent Work
Whoever came up with the idea for this album should be handsomely rewarded. Robert Plant nails Nothin' and makes that his song (apologies to Townes Van Sant) and his purring on Gone, Gone, Gone is outstanding. That's one of those songs that gets cranked up. Gone, Gone, Gone is a fine example of an interpretation of a song that makes the song timeless. It's an interpretation that looks back to the Everly Brothers and forward into the present.
Alison Krauss has a beautiful voice and she doesn't disappoint here.
