Not bad
Not a bad song. But the only reason I "bought" it was because it was free. At this point, I don't think it'll inspire me to purchase the rest of the album. But I do like this song. Nice retro sound.
Competent Professional Work
Four stars to SJ and the DKs. This is a good, solid song. Nothing original, but well-crafted and performed. It has all the right elements, a big, warm mezzo lead vocal, chorus girls (and guys), call and response, horns punctuating the melody, bari-sax bouncing around the bass and retro, if selective, signal processing (the tight snare drum is nice). But there's no mistaking that this is a modern production, arranged by someone well-acquainted with 40 years of music history, using modern engineering tools. And so, the philosophical question, why make music now that somebody already made decades ago? The answer probably depends on the music's purpose. A period film or theater piece? A documentary movie or television show? Capitalizing on market demand? It really is a 4 star recording, but the originality needed for that 5th star is not there.
Great!!!
I also got the email for the free MP3s and, man, am I glad. This track is real music that brings back the days of real soul music. I sampled all the tracks on this album, purchased it, and am listening to it all the time now. You won't regret getting this free track and you won't regret buying the whole album.
