Amazing
I never saw any version of Sweeney Todd before seeing this version by Tim Burton. The catchy, dark songs, such as "A Little Priest" (my favorite) got stuck in my head, and I had to buy the soundtrack as soon as I got home from the theater. Johnny Dapp can actually sing! I was surprised, honestly. He's a fine actor, but I had no idea about his singing skills.
A very impressive soundtrack. I'm not usually a fan of musicals, or soundtracks to films, but this is amazing.
The movie soundtrack
Other people have talked about vocal weaknesses, so I won't repeat that. My big complaint is the poor quality of the song-text booklet included. In the so-called "Final Scene" sequence there are two scene changes and the deaths of the four characters, none of which is noted in the texts, which simply prints the lyrics. Somebody who hadn't seen the movie and doesn't know the plot would be utterly bewildered as to what is going on in the story while the music is being sung -- which is all the worse because the Final Scene is probably the best-scored part of the movie.
