Black Keys + Danger Mouse = Good Music4
This album is much more polished than the Black Keys older stuff. I love their old raw sound. This album is better produced and sounds like it would have wider appeal. They could only take that old formula so far. It's good to hear them trying something new and doing it well.

No Thickfreakness3
As a fan of TBK and owner of everything they have ever produced I bought this album even knowing the potential pitfalls.
Yes, it is better than what a lot of bands are putting out, which makes it good.
However it is not to the standards we expect from TBK.
This doesn't even come close to the dirt and grit of Thickfreakness or Rubber Factory.
The chunky riffs are apparent on maybe half the songs on this album.
Bottom line? Too slick.
That being said, I just saw the boys live here in Seattle and it was all raw!!!!
In this day and age with so many side projects from bands they should have grabbed a vocalist and released this under a different name.
Consider this Danger Mouse thing a failed experiment.
I will be anxiously awaiting your next album.

Great Album4
This is great. It's very exciting to see 2 different groups/individuals come together and make something like this.

Great mixes4
I like most of the disks from Ultra and this one is no exception. The only track I didn't like was the Public Enemy one. Even though I'm not going to run out and start bying music by Pink, Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson, I gotta admit their mixes on this disk are really good.

DONT BUY... unless you like to PARTY!!!!!!5
This CD is good Techno. No ifs ands or buts. This CD will make you nod your head. What more can you ask of dance music.

Fabulous.5
This is one of the best cd's I've purchased in years. Sharon Jones has this incredible voice- it sounds a bit weathered, like she's been there, done that. The band is really tight, and I'm not sure how long they've been playing together, but it sounds fantastic. They have an old school Motown/ funk thing going on, and all of the songs are really fun and energetic. I've been running my mouth off about this cd to my friends, so I figure I may as well do it on Amazon as well. Enjoy!

How can you not dig it?5
Well, if you aren't into old school R&B/soul, then you probably won't dig it. If you at all find sizzling horns, funky bass lines, and female vocalists with voices from God at all listenable, then you will love this CD. For a point of reference--Amy Winehouse used the Dap Kings as backup for most of her debut (Back to Black). Take that band, better songs, and a stronger vocalist with soul to spare, and you get Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I don't have their first two CDs, but they're on my wish list.

The Orange Box (Original Soundtrack)

The Orange Box (Original Soundtrack)

Customer Reviews

You Already Know if You Want it5
If you played the orange box, and liked the music, then you might want to buy this -- especially if you bought it for a console (I feel sorry for you). The music can be extracted from the PC version pretty painlessly (use cfgscape). As for the music itself - you already know if you like it (you did play the game, right?). You don't need my opinion to help you decide. The only surprise here is track 19, which is not in any of the games. Track 19 is Still Alive sung by the author of the lyrics. Listen to a preview to get an idea of how it sounds.

As for the music itself, my humble opinion is that this soundtrack is on par (if not greater than) Valve's previous works. I love it.

More than "Still Alive"5
Yes, Still Alive is an amazing way to end a game, a fun and charming song. No one seems to be giving the rest of the album any praise at all. I love the music Valve puts in their games. I was as excited to listen to the Orange Box games as to play them. Last Legs and Sector Sweep are awesome hard hitting tracks which really capture the essence of those tense moments in Half Life. Team Fortress 2's tracks bring a new approach to Valve's games with a 1960's spy movie style.

All in all, it's a great buy. Viva la Valve!

This album is a RIOT!5
This album is really great. I first heard one of their singles and loved it so I decided to download the rest. I was instantly in love with parAMORE. Definitely buy this album!

Teetering between 3 and 4 stars...actually 3 1/2 stars if I could4
Besides for the strength of a couple of singles, the lyrics aren't all that outstanding. The hooks are good but on most songs, not all the innovative.

The lead singer has great energy and an amazing voice. And on the bright side, if they learn how to adapt their sound into something that's truly original, there's a lot of room for this band to grow. There's a lot of upside for this band.

It's a Riot!5
This was the first paramore album that I've purchased and I was blown away. There's not a bad song on the album and most of the songs are very catchy. Hayley's voice is amazing (on the album and live). The lyrics capture teenager/relationship angst perfectly. I recommend this album to anyone. I have actually turned some of my friends into fans of Paramore, and they usually don't listen to indie/punk/emo stuff. That's just shows Paramore's ability to cross genres in its music!

Heartwarming, empowering, entrancing - wonderful5
Anyone who enjoys folk music of any kind will find themselves drawn into the rich voices and powerful, essential lyrics of this soundtrack. Covering themes of love, friendship, loss, betrayal, self-discovery, and renewal, the songs of "Once" tell of basic human wants and wishes, without the kitsch so often found in today's feel-good films. Music created by talented musicians and real, down-to-Earth people, the songs do not whisper, "life is good," they shout "go live life!"

EPIC5
From start to finish, this album is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. I think it's fantastic. It starts on a more upbeat note with "Black Lung" and ends on a more mellow accoustic out with "Who will Give Us Love." The album is thier much anticipated first full release since "The City Turns Everything Electric." If you only buy one album this year it should be this album. Epic music that won't leave your head, and should be listened to from begining to end. Phenomenal!
If you're a fan of jeff buckley, coldplay, accoustic, indie, or just a fan of good music.. then by all means, pick this album up.

best album of '085
This is the best album i've heard in a really really long time. Its one of those albums where you can't skip a song because its just overall amazing. It's the best cruising music, when you're driving at night and just want to be at peace.

stellamaris to new frontiers5

Boxer

You Won't Regret This5
This is the best album I've heard in a while. I picked this one up upon the recommendation of a friend, having never heard anything of this band previously; since then I've been listening to Boxer straight though at least once every day. I simply cannot get these songs out of my head--especially "Fake Empire" and "Mistaken for Strangers." There honestly isn't one throwaway track on this album. With Amazon's low low price, you really have nothing to lose, so please, stop reading and buy this CD!

original and timeless5
This is easily one of the strongest indie albums of 2007. The lyrics are subtle and thought provoking. Singer Matt Berninger's deep baritone sounds like one more perfectly played instrument in the band. His voice and the rest of the band are beautifully unique. Their music is oddly beautiful - never odd simply for the sake of being odd.

One Cell In The Sea

one of the best releases of 20075
as an ardent reader of mojo,Q,and uncut magazines,i normally compare my own best of list with theirs, and with the odd exception, most pundits agree on what was hot and what not on the music scene the year gone by.yet, glaringly absent from the best of list for 2007 by all the said magazines, was a fine frenzy.this once again raised the question what makes for an album to be so special that it appeals across various musical tastes and ultimately, has enough quality(and staying power to make it one of the best releases for a specific year?).

I do not propose that there is one answer to such a question or that i indeed have the answer, but,of one thing i am convinced, and that is that all three the above quoted authorities on music have it wrong this year.Regardless of one's musical preference a fine frenzy's debut album is one of the finest moments in music.a sincere, serene effort that never let go.one is hard pressed to find amongst all the tracks any lesser ones.it is beyond doubt however that the standout tracks(which comprise most of the album)would fit comfortably on any acclaimed artist's "wish i had done that" list.so,to summarise,if you really want to hear one of the greatest albums of 2007,which will still sound fresh and alluring at the end of 2008 ,buy this album.you will be richly rewarded.

Just A Little Lovin'

Just A Little Lovin'

Customer Reviews

Shelby Lynne, brilliant, as usual5
The irony of this record is that Shelby Lynne is a much more significant artist than Dusty Springfield. Nothing against Dusty, I like her well enough (even though her signature song, "Son of a Preacherman", was done far, far better by Aretha, though as a rule Aretha makes any song she sings her personal property thenceforth and forevermore). But she was just a singer with an identifiable, and very effective, style. Shelby Lynne has had a remarkable career that is impressive in its depth and breadth. She's had the occasional misstep but her musicality is so strong that she just opens her mouth and music pours forth effortlessly. She's like Elvis in that way. And I don't compare people to Elvis casually. In fact, that might be the first time I've ever done it. That might be the first time it's ever occured to me to do it.

Blast from the '80's Past4
This is SOOOO 80's. I'm sure if the songs were produced in the 80's they would have been hits. Good (although predictable) story.

Engaging entertainment! 5
Watched this DVD four times because the cast of actors and actresses were outstanding, a good fit! And, the music was engaging... and I am a Beatle fan! I even bought the soundtrack! Hugh Grant is a solid performer in romantic comedies.

Cute movie5
We enjoyed this light hearted movie; we were surprised at how much we enjoyed the songs that Hugh Grant sung, himself, cute romantic movie.

Ingred Michaelson4
Great cd with some awesome tracks, but watch out, this cd does NOT have the song featured on greys anatomy. Purchase the greys anatomy cd to get that one. even still the music is great. Highly reccomended.

good voice, bad songs2
i have had really good luck with finding music thru amazon until i bought ingrid michaelson's "girls and boys". i was excited on the first track to hear such a quality voice, but the songs and the lyrics throughout are, well, just stupid. my best description would be to say that each song is comprised of the random thoughts of a woman as if she was day dreaming. every song is whimsical and disjointed, without depth or thought or meaning. quite a few songs have some type of instrumentation designed to sound like some kind or background noise,(purpose unknown) which is very irritating and disturbing to listen to. i don't know what the artist was trying to do here, but i am glad i bought this one used and at a cheap price. do yourself a favor and pass this one by.

Girls and Boys5
I purchased Girls and Boys CD as a gift for my son. He is enjoying it very much because it's music from Grey's Anatomy.

You can't waste the day wishing it'd slow down5
Singer-songwriters are garnering a lot more respect nowadays, as evidenced by singers like A Fine Frenzy, Brandi Carlile, Charlotte Martin, and now, Sara Bareilles. Being included in company as the afforementioned is tough, did Sara pull out the stops and give us a worthy addition?

The best CD ive heard in along time!3
After seeing the movie "once" I new I had to have all the stuff these two have made together and I highly recommend both CDS and the movie too! I listen to them every day!

Absolutely amazing!5
I first heard the Swell Season on a KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic podcast. I know it's a good sign when I keep replaying a podcast over and over again. I fell in love immediately and soon bought the "Once" soundtrack since it has some songs not on this album, or else the same songs are composed in a slightly different way. I only recently saw the movie, but the music stands out more than anything for me. It's slow, but comforting, and not depressing by any means. Someone once said that Glen Hansard as a "cello-like" voice and I completely agree. It gets down into your core.

I am so glad the White Stripes released another album together. Their analog sound always amazes me. Meg's drumbeats are the ultimate accompaniment to Jack's bizarre style. I have never heard a White Stripes cd that didn't both delight and leave me scratching my head: how do they do it!

Smart, fun album4
This is a great album! It's fun and upbeat, but the songs are well written and have a dark edge. I'm surprised how smart the lyrics are at times; some of the songs tell a whole story, and do it well. Reading the list of song titles, you might expect a silly young pop star with more attitude than talent, but that's not the case at all.
