If you loved the decidedly British indie feel of 28 Days Later and the raw emotions it evoked, you will love this track.

Coldplay Transforming

Although I've never been a huge Madonna fan, she has certainly impressed me with her ability to move forward. Like a designer, she constantly creates a new sound, and does not accept status quo. She has staying power that few pop artists will ever know. The greatest bands I love with this kind of staying power are The Rolling Stones, U2 and R.E.M.

I was driving in downtown Charleston, SC when I first heard Violet Hill on Sirius. It was a beautiful spring day in May, with the windows down. Almost immediately, I was compelled to turn up the volume unlike so many other Coldplay songs, where I turned down the volume as the songs did not command volume, but rather a mellow peace.

At exactly two minutes and 20 seconds into the song, I recognized the genius of this song, Brian Eno, and Coldplay.

Could it be Coldplay has a Madonna like ability to move forward with the staying power of U2 or R.E.M? My guess is Coldplay has left the cocoon!

Something a little different...
This song is a very interesting new edge to Coldplay.

They have reinvented themselves, which I think is great.

I don't think that everyone will like this song, but it grows on you and I think will become a big hit. I love it!

Wonderful song about life
I heard this song on Friday on my favorite soap opera and I just had to have it. I am not a country music fan but this song echoed my life so much as a mom of 5. It makes you appreciate the crazy times more. It's just a great song and he has a wonderful voice.

Great Song
I am definitely not a country lover but believe it or not I heard him perform this song on the finale of Celebrity Apprentice and I loved it. From what I saw on the show he seems like a very sincere and outstanding guy. This song is great.

New and old come together in an unforgetable album
I downloaded the free offering from this album 'Dead Sound' and was instantly hooked on the Raveonettes blend of 50's-60's rock n roll guitar with modern Indie sound. The duo's vocal blend is amazingly smooth. All in all the whole album is a gem.

A Dark "Take Me Out"
This slow hit has taken the music world by storm, and six months after it hit radio, it still won't leave us. The song's verses are sub-par to say the least, but the chorus hooks you into the song, making it at least a radio hit. The song also barrows the same riffs and hooks as "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinad, which is by far a better song. The song also has more of a dark mood, with the half-angry vocals.

Overall, an overrated, unoriginal song, that does just enough to pass off it's flaws. Check out "Take Me Out" instead, it's ten times as good.

Usher is indeed coming back.
This song makes you think, "Welcome back."
It's catchy, it'll be a hit in the club but it's no 5-star song.
Believe that.
The beginning, "And I promise I'm gonna keep it comin' all night lo o o o o o o o ong." is the best part in the song.
But the song gets repetitive.
But the lyrics are fun.
It's better than Yeah.
It's extremely radio-friendly.

A New Songbird
To really be honest with you, this past year has been very difficult to actually find what has been good in pop music. While so many artists like Jordin Sparks and Beyonce' have taken so much radio airplay, it has been harder to find fresh faces to make good music come alive. Newcomer, Sara Bareilles though has managed to get herself out there and try to make a name for her little voice with her debut single, Love Song. The song actually is very catchy after awhile, and stays with you. It is a pretty good song that shows she has a decent ability who has the distinction of making good songs sound fresh, rather than flimsy and manufactured. I really hope she keeps making good ones for years to come, that really stick to the mind and soul.

Fun tune
I got this song for free from Starbucks when they had their daily iTunes download promotion. It was one of the few they had that I really liked because of the fun, skippy piano melody. Lately it's getting plenty of air-play.

On the Top 40 radio show, Seacrest mentioned that her label told her to write a love song for her latest album...she didn't want to...so there's the lyric! Very cute song!

Ridiculously Fresh and New
I am an African American female and I love Sara Bareilles' 'Love Song' from the first moment I heard it. I love female singer/songwriters and she is #1 at the top of my list! She is a fresh new voice and I hope she continues to produce more music for an industry so in need of new talent.

Yeah I'm 16, but many older adults love "See You Again" as well as me.
This is the best song off of Miley Cyrus' 2-Disc set 'Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus'.
It is the most catchiest song you will hear on the radio today, plus it is easily addictive if you'd just listen to the chorus.

LOVE it!
I heard this song for the first time Friday, went home, bought it, and listened to it about 10x! It's upbeat with great lyrics! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!

Flashback: 90's Brit Pop
Remember when Brit pop was the flavor of the month? Oasis, Spice Girls, all seemingly ruled the world. Well, now it's trying to make a comeback with Leona Lewis, and former HillSong singer and song-writer, little Natasha Bedingfield.

This time, she doesn't bring any phony rap artists, but rather, herself and a backup singer. The result is distinctively Brit Pop, but maybe a little more suited to today's audiences. The vocals are the same as always for Bedingfield. The music itself is typical modern music, take it or leave it, although my description is a bit vague. The song is minorly catchy, but pretty much standard Brit Pop stuff that is overly forgettable.

Overall, forgettable, Brit Pop, standard, maybe a bit boring. So if you like Bedingfield's other "work," you'll like this song. If you're a hit radio zombie, you'll also like it. For the rest of us, just pass. You're not missing anything.

A bang up deal that's for sure. Easy to download, all went fine and I think Micheal McDonald did a great job on the song too.

Michael McDonald Remakes Another Classic
I love all kinds of music. And I generally prefer to hear the interpretation of the original artist, that's just my bias. So when I saw this new track on Michael McDonald's latest album, I was skeptical.

Yet Michael McDonald's voice is so unique that he brings something to every song, even remakes. This is no exception. This is a solid track. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that the original "Higher and Higher" has been equalled here. But I can see this new version breathing life into a song not in the forefront of everybody's mind.

So what Michael McDonald is old? Everybody gets old. Ray Charles got old and Johnny Cash got old, and age only added more character to their voices. In the case of Michael McDonald, he's going to have to get a lot older before his voice changes at all. Nope, it's not everybody's style of music, but the man can sing.

There's a part in the movie "The 40 Year Old Virgin" where one of the store clerks wants to shoot himself because they keep playing MM over and over. I imagine that a lot of people feel that way. Still, I am glad to hear this new take on a classic song. For those that don't like MM, you don't have to listen to this, not even once. Unless you work at SmartTek. :)

Still the man!
I had a very emotional response on first listen to the title track, so I can't promise my review is totally objective. The song is heartfelt, earnest, slyly humorous and full of self-reflection. Longtime fans will be pleased if the rest of the album lives up to the promise of this track. I'm certainly eager to hear it. My ranking of 4/5 stars compares this to other Hiatt master works. It's 5/5 compared to almost anything else out there.

Bleeding Love (Album Version)

Better Than Mariah?
This is really the biggest surprise of the year thus far. I mean, this girl comes off the American Idol of England, comes to the states, and this song comes out of nowhere building radio play all the way to #1. What's the secret? Apparently America just loves those female R&B Love Song vibes.

Leona Lewis herself has a rather good voice, and carries herself pretty well throughout the song. The song itself is pretty darn standard in the R&B Love Song genre, so it could be sung by Mariah, or any artist in that mold for that matter. No ground is broken, but it is a nice listen, and so far, it has not annoyed me to death, so that's always a positive.

So overall, nothing brilliant, nothing new, but Leona Lewis seems to nice enough to be let on my radio dial. And, even though this might be saying much, this song might be better than most of Mariah's work, since her stuff is so overly done, it's pathetic. It's also a nice change of pace that Leona isn't practically begging her lover to touch her body like another certain artist has done. ;)

Really A One
When it comes to really good R&B, there are very few divas that've shown that heart like Alicia Keys. After the mammoth success of her pervious albums, Songs In A Minor, Unplugged and Diary Of Alicia Keys, her first single from her fourth album As I Am, No One, is one of the best R&B songs I've heard this year. The song is very soulful, and ignites a real fire that is sophisticated and true to Alicia's soulful style. I absolutely love this song, because it is a great pop song that stands out. It really is one of the best songs of 2007 and 2008. Now that it is finally available as a MP3 download from Amazon.com, I absolutely recommend this as a must buy for your MP3 player.

Only Linkin Park Song I've Ever Liked
First time I heard this song I thought it was from some electronic band, like Daft Punk. I'm still not fully convinced it's Linkin Park, since I like it. The simple bass line and muted background vocals give it a haunting quality (and yes, it's to the same rhythm as 'With or Without You', as approximately 1,000 rock songs are).

Proof that free songs sell albums
I downloaded this song and liked it so much I ended up buying both of her albums offered here. I have enjoyed Sophies music very much, and look forward to further releases. I seem to have a thing for canadian blondes, as Diana Krall is another favorite of mine. If you like well played jazz sung by a beautiful lady, Sophie or Diana are both good choices. Buy the album, you wont be disappointed.

Good song reminiscent of the Forties/Ronstadt
This review for the song "So Lone, You Fool" only, not the album. It is availabe as a free download now and so I checked it out.

If you've ever heard Linda Rondstadt's two albums she cut with Nelson Riddle that featured selections out of the Great American Songbook, Sophie Milman is very similar. To me, that's good. I really like Ronstadt's work. Ms. Milman has a smooth, evocative voice and the arrangement is complimentary and not over-done. The song itself is wonderful. I downloaded this tune from Amazon for free just to see what it was like. If you like American standards by a skilled vocalist, download this while it's still free and try it out. I'm thinking about getting the full album.
